"Tie-Dyed" Eggs (Literally)

Ok I know that Easter is long gone. But, when you're blog hopping you sometimes find cool stuff after the fact. And you mean to remember it for next year, but then you never do. Or if you are like me you remember it but then can't find it. Aka... I'm still trying in vein to locate a layout I saw about being an internet junkie. The person's hands were tied together with the cord of a computer mouse and there was a thought bubble coming out of the person's head with internet jargon. If you know the layout I'm talking about or even something similar let me know. If it's the one I'm looking for I'll send you a RAK. But I digress.

So I started blog hopping and ended up at Our Best Bites (see previous post) and there I found these truly unique colored eggs. They were colored by wrapping eggs in men's silk ties. It's raining rainbows - Rainbow Cupcakes that is...

With all the rain we have been having I think it's time for a rainbow. Rainbow cupcakes anyone? This is totally not my recipe. Nor have I tried it - YET. But I did bookmark it in Google Reader as something fun to do with the kids over summer vacation. And well from one momma to another, fun summer vacation stuff needs to be shared. And with that said go here for instructions and a detailed recipe Our Best Bites. Below is a quick copy and paste of their recipe - just in case the link doesn't work.

Colorburst Cupcakes
1 white cake mix
2 eggs
1 C sour cream
1/2 C water
1/3 C vegetable oil

Combine all ingredients until incorporated (about 30 seconds). Scrape sides of bowl and then beat on med-high speed for 3 minutes. Divide batter according to how many colors you are using. 5 colors worked out to a little over 1 cup for each color. Use food coloring to color batter to desired intensity. These use a 1/4 t and they were very bright! You could easily make pastel rainbows using a little less.

You'll want gel food colors for this, not the little bottles of liquid. Gel color adds a ton of color with a small amount of dye. You can find gel colors at craft stores like Michaels and Roberts, and in the cake decorating isle of Walmart.

Just not happening tonight

Okay well I have tried for a good 30 minutes to upload pictures to this blog and it just is not happening. I'm not really sure what the problem is. But each and every picture I try to upload blogger gives me an internal error message on. They can't all have errors. And resizing, cropping, and just plain picking a different picture didn't work. So I am taking it as a hint and giving up. Maybe tomorrow I'll have better luck.

Anyway today's fun little tidbit is a crafty activity for the kids. We made several of these and they are truly addicting.

SQUISHING BALL Directions
1 medium size balloon
1/2 cup of salt or flour or corn starch
1 funnel

#1 Pretty simple basically attach the balloon to the end of the funnel.
#2 Fill the balloon with substance of your choice.
#3 Make sure you use the entire 1/2 cup of filler. A pencil (eraser side) is good for pushing the filling down and allowing you to work it all into the balloon.
#4 Knot the end of the balloon and enjoy!

Note: Flour makes for a soft squishing ball. And salt makes for a harder firmer squishing ball. Both are fun. Flour was harder to get into the balloon, but the kids liked it better.
